Language Maintenance of Bataknese Language in Batak Toba People in Tangerang

This study examines language maintenance practices within the Batak Toba community in Tangerang, Indonesia. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a Google Form survey to assess the frequency and context of Bataknese language use. The study focuses on individuals aged 25–40, who are primarily active speakers of Bataknese, reflecting the community's commitment to preserving their linguistic heritage. Guided by theories from Creswell, Fishman, and Dawson, the researchers analyzed the data to uncover reliable insights. The findings highlight the significant role of community and cultural identity in language preservation. Within the Batak Toba community, the Bataknese language continues to thrive through interactions in familial and communal settings, despite challenges posed by urbanization and multicultural influences in Tangerang. The study identifies environmental restrictions and specific domains, such as home, work, and public spaces, as key factors influencing language use. It underscores the need for targeted language preservation strategies to ensure the Bataknese language remains vibrant across generations. Practical recommendations include fostering a sense of pride in the language and its cultural roots, encouraging its use in familial and social contexts, and promoting educational initiatives to strengthen linguistic competence. In conclusion, this research emphasizes that language maintenance is vital for preserving cultural identity. The Batak Toba community in Tangerang demonstrates how linguistic resilience can counter the pressures of dominant languages, providing a model for other minority groups facing similar challenges. By focusing on these strategies, the community can ensure the continued vitality of the Bataknese language.

Analisis Kesalahan Berbahasa Pasa Spanduk dan Baliho Di Lingkar Jalan Raya Kecamatan Tambak Kabupaten Banyumas dalam kajian Morfologi

Penelitian ini menganalisis kesalahan berbahasa pada spanduk dan baliho di jalan raya Kecamatan Tambak, Kabupaten Banyumas, dengan fokus pada kajian morfologi. Dalam komunikasi publik, penggunaan bahasa yang tepat sangat penting untuk menyampaikan informasi secara efektif kepada masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, dengan data diperoleh melalui observasi langsung terhadap spanduk dan baliho yang terdapat di wilayah tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan berbagai kesalahan morfologis, seperti penggunaan afiks yang tidak tepat, pembentukan kata yang keliru, dan ketidakcocokan bentuk kata. Kesalahan ini dapat menghambat pemahaman masyarakat terhadap isi pesan yang disampaikan. Faktor utama penyebab kesalahan meliputi kurangnya pemahaman terhadap kaidah morfologi bahasa Indonesia dan minimnya perhatian dalam proses perancangan materi iklan. Temuan ini menyoroti pentingnya peningkatan kesadaran pembuat spanduk dan baliho akan kaidah morfologi yang benar dalam komunikasi publik. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan upaya pelatihan atau panduan praktis bagi para pembuat media iklan untuk meningkatkan kualitas bahasa yang digunakan. Selain itu, perhatian lebih dalam proses penyusunan materi iklan juga diperlukan untuk memastikan informasi dapat tersampaikan dengan jelas dan efektif. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi penting dalam memahami kesalahan morfologi dalam media komunikasi publik dan menawarkan solusi praktis untuk meningkatkan efektivitas penyampaian pesan melalui media seperti spanduk dan baliho. Dengan demikian, informasi yang disampaikan dapat lebih mudah dipahami oleh masyarakat, meningkatkan dampak komunikasinya di ruang publik.

The Factor of Language Shift at Cina Benteng Tangerang

This research aims to analyzed the factors of language shift in Cina Benteng especially at Tangerang. Cina Benteng is one of the mixed decendants in Indonesia which have the dialect that mixed with the local language that used at that time. According to Holmes (2001), language shift often refers to the process through which one language replaces another in a community’s linguistic repertoire. Based on Holmes (2001), language shifting happens in 3 factors. According to Fishman (1972), language shifting often happens in several domains, such as in family, freinds, religion, education and employement. The researchers would like to do an analysis of language shift factors in Cina Benteng at Tangerang. The data were collected by questionnaire that filled by Cina Benteng community with estimated age 18-25 years old. The reserachers choose this object due to Cina Benteng is one of the big community decendants in Indonesia, especially at Tangerang, and because of several factors that may causing the language shift in Cina Benteng dialect. To collect the data, the research used descriptive qualitative approach. As the result, the researchers found out several factors that influence language shift in Cina Benteng and the domains that may influence the factors, which can be classified into those three factors, there are: 1. Economic, social, political factors, 2. Demographic factors, 3. Value and Attitude factors.

The Linguistic Landscape of Public Signs in Istiqlal Mosque

This research examines the linguistic landscape in places of worship, focusing on public signs at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. The study aims to analyze the language use on signs in this iconic mosque, applying Spolsky and Cooper's theoretical framework, which classifies signs based on linguistic taxonomy. Data were collected through direct observation at the mosque, where researchers photographed public signs over a single day. The analysis identified 51 signs, categorized into 28 monolingual, 10 bilingual, and 13 multilingual signs. The multilingual signs featured a combination of Indonesian, Arabic, and English. These signs were further classified by function, including prohibitions, warnings, labels, directions, and informational purposes. The findings reveal a rich linguistic landscape that reflects the cultural and religious significance of the Istiqlal Mosque. The signs not only facilitate communication and navigation for domestic and international visitors but also underscore the mosque's role as a multicultural and multilingual space. The use of Indonesian as the national language dominates the signage, while Arabic emphasizes religious identity, and English accommodates international visitors. This study highlights the importance of linguistic landscapes in enhancing accessibility and fostering inclusivity in public spaces. By examining the diversity of languages and their functions on signs at the Istiqlal Mosque, this research provides valuable insights into the intersection of language, culture, and communication in a religious and cultural landmark. The findings also have implications for designing effective signage in multilingual and multicultural contexts.

Woman’s Language Features Used by Female User in “Love and Deepspace” Game Instagram Account

This study explores the linguistic features used by women to express emotions in the Instagram comment section of the Love and Deepspace game. Anchored in sociolinguistics and gender studies, the research examines how women employ language to construct identity, navigate social relationships, and convey emotions in this digital platform. The study specifically analyzes a corpus of comments to identify linguistic features such as lexical choices, syntactic structures, and discursive practices. Data collection occurred between May and July 2024, focusing on 27 samples of game-related comments. The analysis also considers how linguistic features vary depending on the nature of the game content and the interactive dynamics of the comment section. For example, the use of intensifiers, hyperbolic expressions, and emotionally charged vocabulary was observed in comments responding to pivotal game developments or community interactions. The findings reveal that intensifiers were the most dominant linguistic feature, with 7 instances identified among the 27 data samples. This pattern highlights the strategic use of intensifiers to amplify emotional expressions and create a stronger connection with others in the community. The analysis also points to the unique ways women adapt their language to suit the interactive, public nature of digital spaces like Instagram. Overall, the research sheds light on the intersection of language, emotion, and digital communication, emphasizing the importance of understanding linguistic strategies in gendered contexts. These insights contribute to broader discussions on language use in online gaming communities and the role of social media in shaping modern communication practices.
